Substitute an individual for a company. Picture two companies, given the same opportunities, the same resources, and potential. One fails, one doesn't. Do we chalk it up to some other factor in their environment? Maybe something in their inception was flawed?
No, Collins argues. Success really boils down to two things: conscious choice and discipline. The companies we see succeed had great leaders making great decisions and following through with tremendous discipline.
