If only the path to success were paved with gold. Unfortunately, it is not. In fact, rarely is success ever an easy point from point ‘A’ to point ‘B.’ It’s usually a very windy, rocky road with many divergences.
But according to Brian Chesky, co-founder of Airbnb, the key is not being afraid to ask for help. You have to have no shame!
Airbnb was born out of an inkling of an idea, but it didn’t become an overnight sensation. It was, like many entrepreneurs’ journeys, a long path. Throughout it, Chesky, along with Joe Gebbia and Nathan Blecharczyk, were shameless and avid pursuers in seeking help. They asked anyone and everyone who seemed to have insight into starting a business.
According to Chesky, it paid off. People were more than happy to pass on their wisdom and help them along their way. “And I think that that spirit of ‘I’m going to help you, and I’m going to pay it forward if you’re successful is a really really important idea,” he stresses.
